Find Your SGPA:
You should start with calculating your SGPA. You can calculate your SGPA by following these steps;
- You will receive specific credit points for each subject in a semester.
- In the first step, make a note of these credit points listed on your performance sheet.
- In the second step, multiply each subject’s credit points by its own grade.
- In the third step, add all the multiplication results for each subject.
- Now total the credit points for each subject.
- This is an important step. It requires careful consideration. Divide step 3’s sum by step 4’s sum. The value you got is your final SGPA.
Example of Calculation:
Subject | Credit Point | Grade |
G.K | 4 | 10 |
Geography | 3 | 9 |
English | 5 | 8 |
Science | 2 | 7 |
Follow these simple steps to calculate your SGPA;
In the first step, note down the credit points for each subject – 4, 3, 5, 2.
In second step, multiply the credit point of each subject by its grade:
- For G.K: 4 x 10 = 40
- For Geography: 3 x 9 = 27
- For English: 5 x 8 = 40
- For Science: 2 x 7 = 14
- In the next step, add the results of multiplications for each subject. 40 + 27 + 40 + 14 = 121.
- In this step, add all of the credit points for each subject. 4 + 3 + 5 + 2 = 14.
- Now, divide the amount from Step 3 by the total from Step 4. 121/14 = 8.64.
- The result is 8.64. This result is your SGPA.
Find Out The Conversion Formula:
Different institutions use different SGPA to percentage conversion formulas. You should first find out which formula your institution is using. Find out the formula and move towards the conversion process.
Apply The Conversion Formula:
Once you find the conversion formula. Apply it on your SGPA. You will have your SGPA. In SGPA to percentage conversion, we multiply the SGPA with the conversion factor. Then we minus 7.5 from it.
Example:
Let’s understand this conversion process with the help of an example. Support that a student has 7.5 SGPA in a semester. And the conversion factor used by the institution is 10. We can convert the SGPA into percentage by the following steps;
- Multiply the SGPA and conversion factor. 7.5 x 10 = 75.
- Minus 7.5 from the answer. 75 – 7.5 = 67.5
- Your percentage is 67.5.
A general SGPA to percentage list is given below, for your better understanding;
SGPA | Calculation | Percentage |
5.0 | (5*10)-7.5 | 42.5 |
5.5 | (5.5*10)-7.5 | 47.5 |

9.0 | (9*10)-7.5 | 82.5 |
9.5 | (9.5*10)-7.5 | 87.5 |
10 | (10*10)-7.5 | 92.5 |
What is the difference between SGPA and CGPA?
CGPA is an abbreviation for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It represents a student’s academic performance across an academic year. The SGPA represents a semester’s performance grade. CGPA can be derived from SGPA. Just add all of the SGPA numbers for each semester and divide by the total number of semesters.
To find a student’s CGPA, use the formula:
CGPA = (SGPA of Semester 1 + SGPA of Semester 2) / (Sum of Semesters)
(6 + 4)/(1+1) = 10/2 = 5
Here, CGPA of the student is equal to 5.
